About Me

I grew up in Manchester, Vermont and spent my childhood fishing the Battenkill, sitting in duck blinds, exploring turkey woods, and hiking ruffed grouse covers. I attended Middlebury College where I majored in English and American Literature with a focus in creative writing, lettered in soccer and played in a band named after the Florida retirement community on Seinfeld where Jerry's parents lived. Each summer I drove out to Montana to work for PRO Outfitters on the Blackfoot, Missouri and Smith rivers. After graduating from college, I packed up a U-Haul and moved west to work full-time for PRO as both a fly-fishing and bird-hunting guide.  After 11 years of guiding, I moved back to Manchester where I currently live with my wife, two kids and four dogs. Today, I work full-time for the Orvis company. But the need for individual creative expression is constant, and thanks to an amazing family who loves to support me, I still find time for storytelling and love to carry my camera around with me on all adventures.

My interest in film started during my days guiding on the water and in the field. I became intrigued with trying to capture the soul, spirit, and emotions of fly fishing and hunting on camera. I loved trying to use the screen to tease out that same rush that we feel in the moment. It was challenging. I had no skill and my videos were crap. But I loved it.  So I started picking up as much knowledge and inspiration as I could from experienced friends and kept filming and editing.

I became fascinated with visual story-telling through film and narrative.  I love carrying my camera around with me, capturing moments (especially the ones that are out of our control), and then trying to edit them in a compelling way.  Sharptail Media isn't just me.  It is everyone who I convince to join me on these adventures--my wife, kids, dogs, brother, friends, as well as those who allow me to tell their stories.

It is incredible to experiment and explore, but just as much fun to be inspired.  I am grateful to have the Felt Soul Media's and the Rockhouse Motion's of the world who keep me captivated, amazed and in awe.  And I thank all the storytellers who are consistently willing to geek out with me on the subject of film.  They make it fun and educate me every day.
